I work at a Petsmart, and here on Long Island people are cheap and dont want to get big tanks. They all want ten gallon ones. So, what are some good combos?

I never recomend plecos (other than rubberlip), or big semi agressive fish.

I normally say like 6 mollies or playties, no more than 8 fish total, and some ottos. Or, 6 tetras of the same type and some cories, or 4 dwarf gouramis.

What are some other options?

Guppies and Cories is another good one. I've heard from multiple sources that Mollies aren't a good choice for 10 gallons. 3-4 female bettas. PetSmart here has a tank full of female bettas that coexist perfect together. Dwarf Gourami's not regular ones. African Dwarf Frogs are great in a 10 gallon. Another more rare option is a Dwarf Puffer tank. Problem is that about covers most of the commonly available fish that fit in a 10 gallon tank.

how about 5-6 zebra danios, a couple ottos - maybe an ADF as mentioned before....easy starter tank, a lot of activity, some interest.....

Platys are ok in a 10 gallon but I personally would probably have just 3 along with some bottom swimmers. Or with Dwarf Platys they could get more. They have those at PetSmart here and I so want to get them but don't have anywhere to put them. They are cool lookin.

Shrimp and large snails are also a cool option for smaller tanks to have something different.

Ok, thanks guys :)

Also, whats a good minimunm tank size for african cichlids (non shell dwellers) that I can recomend?

Hehe.....Fishfreak won't be happy until there is a 10g convict tank in every household...

Anyway...generally speaking, 55g and up is good for most africans...really depends on the particular species.....

What size tanks would be good for Cichlids?

Hello, just a comment on the size of the tank for cichlids. First of you'd have to say which cichlids you want, but generally speaking, I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 55gal. They are very territorial and when two decide to couple up, well there will be nothing left but, those two and they will guard all their babies (100's) with their lives, as well as everybody elses, be forwarned! I don't think that I would put several together, unless you want to tangle with that! I guess you know by now what happened to me!
