10g Substrate

Whats a good substrate to use for plants that I can get at home depot/walmart etc.
I've read in other posts that you can put a layer of peat moss down than sand/gravel on top. Is this any good? or would it get messy?

Peat moss floats so it would need to be covered well. Peat moss will also lower your waters ph. For a ten gallon tank, personally Id purchase one bag of fluorite or eco complete to use.

yea i have to agree, id go with flourite. thats what i used to have when i had my 10 gallon set up. everything grew great, and it looked nice. you could pick it up at petsmart. usually around $23 a bag here where i live. petland has it sometimes also for a couple of dollars cheaper usually.

Shipping for up to 30 dollars worth of stuff would be like $8.99 I dont knwo , but I think you can ship to canada from there. I looked at the canadian site for big als and it directs back to the linked site above to order online.. For the price, it would be worth checking into.
