I found 10Watt CFL aquarium light bulbs at walmart last night.. they were $4 each and fit the hood of my aquarium..

I cant remember exactly what it said on the package but something about Full Spectrum.. what does that mean?

Will 2 bulbs be ok to maintain a planted tank?

thanks for the help :D

i believe those would be lights of america brand bulbs(at least at the local wallyworld here they are) and they are excellent for planted tanks, they're 6,500k and, ime, work exceptionally well. you might also look in their lightbulb section and see if you can find any 13w or 15w daylight bulbs as those will sometimes fit into your fixture, depending on the brand of bulbs and fixture and, again here locally, the 13w daylights only cost $.97

Yeah i know which ones your talking about.. i was looking through the hardware section where the light bulbs are at and i saw the .97 daylights.

Some, if not most of them, will not fit my hood.. so yeah, i think im going to try out these CFL lights.. maybe theyl be worth it, who knows. I just dont want to invest in java fern and moss to have them die.

they are 100% worth, imo, they put out more usuable light than normal 15w striplights. give the 13w daylights a shot, they should fit, i used to use an old(maybe 20+yrs old, i got it used when i was a kid) incandescent light fixture that is more shallow than an AGA/aqueon/perfecto fixture and the 13w bulbs would fit in, barely. if they don't fit then you can always use them around the house.

Shweet.. im pickin em up today.. wel see! :D

I purchased one of those 10w CF bulbs from WM for my 5 gallon planted nano tank and I have no complaints. My plants are BOOMING in the nano tank! I would recommend the bulb to anyone, plus if it doesn't work out you could always return them with your reciept within the proper timeline.

i use the ge daylight 6500k bulbs from walmart over 3 tanks now, they last about a year at the most and loose there spectrum. walmart has newer stock now of these and they are more expensive and smaller than last years model. newer bulbs are shorter so not as good imo.
i have 4 of the 26watt and 2 15 watt over a 30g now and i can grow about anything there is. 520 watts or 134 watts actual.
i put the 10w and 15w or 2 15w in 10g hoods, they work great!

heres a pic of the bulbs

customdrum those bulbs won't fit in his hood because they only fit those tube shaped bulbs. But yeah I use those same bulbs you have pictured also, all in different watts too. But you have to modify some hoods for it. the ones tigerbarb are talking about are the ones pictured I think. I have some of those in use also.

2 bulbs should be fine. depending on the plants and your lighting schedule
