12:34 am leak

bummer that happened .. we had gotten a 20g high that we were told didnt leak and sure enough it did .. it was full of water and fish .. and i just happen to be sittin in the right spot and noticed a glare and sure enough it was leaking .. so took it down .. dried it out and resealed it .. and it is holding fine .. ...
i would just reseal it with aquarium safe silicone .. let it cure and then test it .. it might have some water run off from the frameing on the bottom .. we still had a lil water left in there that ust seeped out but after that came out it was fine ..
oh ya and one tip while resealing it ... get those cheap rubber gloves that the doctors use to apply the silicone .. it help with the mess and ya dont get any on the fingers ..

I have re-sealed many tanks over the years ... I've even replaced broken glass in tanks. I test tanks the old fashioned way: set them dry and empty, on a thick layer of newspaper in a dry bathtub, then, carefully avoiding splashes, fill them with cold water, 1/3 per day, watching for wet spots on the newspaper. If I'm in doubt as to the source of a spot, I outline the wet spot on the newspaper with a water-proof marker or a crayon, and see if it gets bigger. (Of course, this mandates having a bathtub not in use for awhile, but smaller tanks can sit on a kitchen counter, and larger ones can be done on the patio or in the garage in the warmer weather.)

If at then end of the 4th day there are no leaks, then I pronounce it tight, empty it and set it up wherever I want it with more newspaper under and around it, just in case. When the tank is known to be leak-free, the newspaper can be ripped or cut away from the front and sides of the tank; the stuff underneath will be hidden by the substrate. Takes a little longer, but waiting for carpets to dry has never been my idea of fun ... when my queen-sized waterbed sprung a leak, it took 2 weeks with fans blowing for the carpet and padding to dry. <g>

we got back from wisconsin that same day, got the tank filter lights gravel stand all for 59.99, got a screaming good deal on it
 
update

well it turned out to be a good day after all. when my parents heard what happened to my tank they felt so bad that they decided to stop by with a brand new 110g tank that they picked up on the way. i was so happy that i almost soiled myself. my parents are the greatest
 
i got my 10 gallon at a local thrift store. i had wanted it just for my hermit crabs, was my first hermit crab tank. i never tested it for water, since it didn't have to hold water. but now i've got fish in it and its holding up just fine. besides that, i got some aquarium scilicon and added it all over the seals when i first got it, just to make sure anyway

WOW!!! I sure hope they got at least hugs and a kiss on the cheek for that. That is one of the sweetest things I've heard.
