120 DIY Oak Stand & Canopy Build

@Rastoma….You have a keen sense of observation….and humor. I spit out a little of my morning joe when I read your post. Except, those aren’t pedestals, they are Definitive Technology BP20 speakers circa 1995. Still some of the sweetest sounding speakers I have ever heard. And that ain’t no vase, it’s a water pitcher. But thanks for drawing my attention to it…now it will forever haunt me….so I will have to find a matching pitcher today

LOL Hope you didn't lose too much joe :)

My first and immediate thought was that they were speakers. But after looking at other pics and not seeing the receiver, I then thought they were pedestals.

Hope I don't make you lose any sleep over it :)

Well, in my excitement to receive the doors yesterday, I didn’t even notice that they didn’t send the Euro hinges that were supposed to come with the door.

I went out to HD to find some, but the brand they carry there has a slightly different placement of the bore. Looks like another delay.

Oh well, in the name of moving ahead, I just put the upper doors on. I’m very, very happy. I found these hinges on some RV parts website, and they are exactly what I needed.

that is absolutely gorgeous. congratulations!

have you considered painting the inside of the canopy with a coat of white-pigmented shellac -- the real alcohol-based stuff, not the fake stuff they sell. obviously you'd have to remove the canopy when you apply it -- no one likes drunky fish -- but it cures in less than an hour and would increase and diffuse the light somewhat.

I thought about it....but I consider the tank a fish tank with plants, not a planted tank with a few fish (no co2, light ferts). So the maximum amount of light is not what I am looking for. I actually try to balance the light exposure just enough to grow plants, but not enough to produce much algae.

As for the inside, it's got 7 coats of poly...everywhere...and I mean everywhere. Hopefully it will hold up, only time will tell.

7 coats of polyurethane - even with heavy sanding between -- out to be pretty durable
