120g Reef Tank Diary

New hitchiker found

Yes, the tank is already getting fun, now that I don't have to try to peer through a forest of algae.

I found a new hitchiker this evening when I got home from work. I think it is a nudibranch, but haven't been able to identify it in my Marine Invertebrates book. I've attached a picture of it. It's about 0.5" - 0.75" (depending on if it's elongated or scrunched up), has no shell, and was going over the live rock - looked like it was interested in some of the algae. Any ideas what it might be?

Stomatella it is!

Good call on the stomatella - especially considering the quality of the pic . I did an internet search and saw some pics of stomatella, and that's definitely what it is. On closer inspection, it does look like it has a very thin shell, which is why I thought it had none and might have been a nudibranch.

I'd love to say it was because of my brilliance, but I guessed it mostly because they are one of the most common things that people get with their rock, and they look somewhat like nudis.
