I think I would have a go at the custom builder. At least find out how serious the problem really is and what he suggests as a solution.
I just looked at your gallery. I also have a soft spot for loaches. I have cabaged one of your clown pictures for a desktop backdrop.

i'm having the same problem (sagging middle) with my 75 gallon stand. i had it set up for almost a year like this, with shims inserted into the gap between the tank and stand (the tank didnt warp down and sit flush, even when full). i dont remember where i got the stand, perhaps a wooden stand would be better than a wrought iron one?
