Hey im setting up my new 125 gal FOWLR tank (well im just planing but could still use help)

Its a Flat back hexagon tank and my main fish will be a Mandarin Goby(if i can i want to get a matted pair and maybe try breeding them) There will also be 1 or 2 clams probably Crocea clams, and that's all the must haves i think as far as that im still trying to pick fish that will not hurt the clams and will not eat the copeopods for my mandarin(s) or hurt the mandarin.

My clean up crew will probably consist of the pre made ones like the Algae Attack Pack - Standard http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=520

and the Detritus Attack Pack - Standard http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=482

Ok and thats what i have so far Please tell me if you think any of that will not work well together. (especially the stuff in the Detritus pack because i have never had any sea cucumbers or serpent stars b4)

and thats all i have so far. I will be adding to this list when i find fish i think will work So please check back every once and a while and please tell me any fish you think would work good as well.

Thank you

Sounds good just give the tank enough time to build up pods. They might breed but, I don't think you'll be able to raise the fry no one has as far as I know. As to the packs I'd go for all the snails but, I'd stick to the red legs for hermits. take a look at this one to http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1944 . and consider adding that as well. The mandrin is a neat fish but, you might consider making another fish your key species they are sort of small.

Thank you maxilaria very helpful, like always :D

I may have misspoke myself heh i am just focusing everything around the Mandarin because i heard they have such low survival rates and i do not want any of my fish to die but especially not one that’s so beautiful. Oh also i plan on using a Refugium to help with nitrates and to build up the copepods so my mandarin(s) have plenty of food

You said go for all the snails does that mean ditch the Detritus Attack Pack or keep all the ones I listed and add the one you put up as well?

ps i will be posting again soon with more fish :thm:

Well, if you keep nitrates low that's plenty big enough for a pair of mandrins to be 100% happy. Just allow the pods enough time to get established it might help if you make some rubble piles in the main tank as well. Fwiw, 125 lbs of l.r. should support them with no issues. I probably wouldn't even be afraid to add another small pod eater like a 6 line wrasse,"they eat more than just pods", as well.

No, I'd probably go for the detritus attack pack to. Just keep in mind that you're going to have to have pretty stable water for the stars, and cuc's.

Jawfish, Yellowhead

Jackknife Fish (maybe 2)

Radiant Wrasse

Copperband Butterflyfish

Saddle Valentini Puffer (maybe i dont know about this one)

I want a sand sifting goby of some kind but i cant pick one so any ideas would be very helpful

Clown Goby, Yellow

Neon Goby

Multicolor Angelfish (i dont know about this one it says they nip clam mantels, any1 know if thats a big deal? Seeing as i will have one or 2 clams i dont want anything that will eat them)

Humu Picasso Triggerfish (dont know about this also, they say it eats clams but im thinking they mean smaller clams)

Scopas Tang

Blue Tang

Ok what do you think? Hit me with the criticisms

All the fish i listed here are listed at http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/categ.cfm?pCatId=15
Somewhere

Thanks guys and gals

if you want to center or at least feature the clams, i would not get the angel at all. regardless that some have been fine, i would not personally think it worth the risk to the clam, as they are not the most tolerant towards stress by fish, and, depending on your species, may or may not be able to close thier mantles, thereby providing an open dinner for the angel.

not quite sue of th exact rule for the tangs, but at one foot each, and slight agression, it may be a problem down the road. but, if this is proven to work out elswhere, i would make sure to try and introduce them at the same time.

i would have to say the trigger will most likely not be safe for your tank, and, even if they are refffering to smaller clams, most clams that are purchased for home aquariums are under a few inches anyway.

on some the cleaner packs, i have to mention the sea stars. most, (and these most likely, due to size) can deplete the sand bed of all your beneficial critters over a short period of time. AND, if you look at their individul profiles,
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=572
you can see that they are listed as, "should not be housed with puffers".
good choice as far as the cucumber goes, its one of the dsb maintaners in my tank plan.

and as to the puffer, live aquaria states: "It will fight with conspecifics such as the filefish, large finned fish, and other tobies. It may be aggressive at times, nipping the fins of tank mates, leaving a circular hole as its mark. It will also eat invertebrates found in a reef tank. Its teeth are actually a fused beak-like structure."

i belive that you want 1- 1 1/2lbs of lr per gallon, and with fish like the mandarins and the copperband, i would add the latter amount.

good luck, and please feel free to ask any questions,
Wolf

Thanks blackwolfXKAV Very helpful. I was afraid of that with the angels so i will stay clear. as for the tangs i will prolly do just one and i will look into the sea stars i dont want to lose the beneficial critters i will also lose the puffer.

I will revise the list more and repost. Thanks again

1. The humu and the valentini will eat any motile inverts you plan on keeping.
2. I wouldn't go with the angelish if you're keeping clams.
3. If you want a jawfish you need a DSB (deep sand bed).
4. Just a heads up, copperbands can be hard to get to eat
5. If you want mandarins, be sure to add them after the tanks been set up a while, and the refugium should help a ton.
6. You could get an engineer goby as a sand sifter.

As an aside, I wouldn't use LiveAquaria as a source of info, I've seen some info on their that was horribly wrong.

Good luck, and I hope this helps!

Yes appreciate the help FreddytheFish. Do you have any other websites you would recommend for information on fish other then This one of course :D

Also i am looking for a good place to buy my tank and supplies. the LFS here is ok its where i got my 1st tank but they have small supplies so im probably going to have to order one from a website. So if any1 knows a good place please post it for me here. thanks

Also i have decided to lose the humu and the valentini and the angel fish and i will make sure to have a deep sand bed for the jaw fish. Would 3 inch be enough or what are we talking about as far as deep?
