Ok, I've done a little searching and didn't quite see what I was looking for. At the moment I have a 75gal that I will be using to house Mbuna, that tank could be replaced by a 125gal if the deal goes thru. So I would like some stocking suggestions for both tanks, forgive me if I don't call them by the propper name, I will give some ideas that I have had so if everyone will just fill in the blanks as far as what else to add. I've went on about my set up so just a little about the tank I have two fluval 404s that will filter either tank, thats 200 gallons of filtration so I should be good there. As far as the fish that I am interested in, I would like to keep Demasoni(Pseudotropheus sp. Demasoni) , Electric Yellow(Labidochromis Caeruleus), and maybe some yellow fin Mbamba(Labidochromis sp. "Mbamba"). I have kept cichlids before and had a big mix, I didn't have any problems with the mix but I would like to do it right this time so I can have a good looking tank. I know about the Demasoni and that I need to keep at least 12 together, I have no problem with that at all, I love their color. as far as the other two go I'm not sure on. I want lots of color and I want the tank to be interesting to watch. I will also be adding some upside down cats(Synodontis nigriventris) and some spotted catfish(Synodontis Multipunctatus). Other than that I have been looking at an eel of some kind but not sure which one will go with my mix if any. I know I always write long posts and can't help it, I'm bored in Iraq and this is what I do in my spare time. Thanks ahead of time for any advise.

Yes that is a good resource, I have looked at it before. I was looking more of what other people have had in a tank and how it worked for them. Thanks

Demasoni are great with yellow labs! I would start with at least 15 demasoni in case you loose a couple along the way. I wouldn't advise the mbama with the demasoni since they look too similar. In fact I would avoid any vertical striped mbuna with demasoni. Instead you can look into Ps acei, Ps socolofi or mainganos as an alternative.

blue2frye, I like the choices you listed, are you saying just one of them or could house all species listed? I looked at 15 demasoni, 4-5 electric yellow, 4-5 Acei, 4-5 socolofi, 4-5 mainganos, and 6 catfish, Of course if I end up using the 75 gallon I will reduce my numbers all together. Is this too much?

I think for a 125 you could get away with 5-6 species. So yes you could keep all of those. In a 75 you'll want to stick to 4 species so you would have to pick which ones you like the best. This is not including the catfish. Synodontis Multipunctatus is a good choice, so is Syno petricola. The petricola are similar but smaller. Both species like larger groups. Their bioload isn't too much so you should be fine with those. Just make sure you keep up on water changes and have a good filter.

Has anyone ever kept crayfish with cichlids, I would like a good scavenger other than the cats

I think crayfish can be tricky with fish. A lot of times one or the other regards one of the others as food.

They are interesting, but I think they are a lot better in their own tank.

german blue rams and plecos work out well. both peaceful fish. Also try loaches.
