130 gallon HELPPP

Hello,

I have a 130 gallon tank. The glass and the workmanship of the tank looks professional but the trim around the top of the tank looks like it was home made. Is this a piece that is truely needed for the tank or is it more decoration? It looks like someone made it, it is made out of metal and we all know what happens to metal and water it rusts. It is driving me nuts. Can I remove it and make something out of wood or is it needed to "hold the tank together". All of my other tanks have plastic around the top including my 90 gal. I am stuck. The tank is beautiful except for that. I do have pics if I can figure out how to post them or I can email them to someone direct.

How old is the tank? Older tanks do have metal trim.

Do you want a pic of the tank or the problem I am having.

I do not know how old it is, I purchased it used I do not think it is very new. Maybe 6 or 7 years old but I am just guessing.

Is there any chance of using a waterproof aquarium-safe sealant all the way around the top of the tank without losing any aesthetic value?

the trimming on the top actually holds the tank together and keeps it from exploding.. removal of this part might cause an instant indoor pool... if a tank were to go trimless.. the glass would have to be thicker than normal to sustain the weight.. yout might be able to get a hold of a tank company who can change the trimming out for you

We build a wood cover for the metal trim so I wouldn't have to look at it.

If it is holding the tank together why would it not be one piece. It does come off but I have not had it off when it was full.

To get something different for it how would I go about it. Does anyone know who to contact or what I need to do.

Can anyone give me any advise on how to fix the problem. There would be now way this tank could be saltwater if that is the case.

I will go take some more pics of just the trim I am talking about. Give me a few minutes.

This is another view of the metal rim. I can not get a good pic of where it is not connected. I will Keep trying to get it and post later.

The rust runs down the front of the tank from the moisture I have to keep washing the front constantly. It is also going into the water inside. This really can not be good for the fish.

Any suggestions?!!!

Here are 2 more views. One is where the piece is not connected to itself like a gap. I suppose the corners is what keeps it together.
