What would be the best lighting set-up for a large tank -- 72 inches long? Metal Halides are not an option..

There will be a variety of plants, but not necessarily a "high" lighted tank.. I will have pressurized CO2..

Are Compact Flourescents the way to go about this??

jra,
Thanks for the website, I boodmarked it.. :cool:

Any more ideas?

I'd go with AHSupply's "Brite Kits". You could go with 4x96w, and have some decent light for almost any plants you want. These also take up minimal space for the light. You could upgrade to 6x96w in the future if you desired to (seriously high light)!

4x96w= $215
6x96w= $315
5000K or 6700K bulbs =$33 ea.

(the sets come with individual reflectors for each bulb, and these reflectors are AWESOME). You can if you choose, get a two-bulb reflector, at no extra cost. This will save you 1" of room front to back (7" overall), but will diminish the reflectivity a bit. I went with individual reflectors on my 4x55w kit suspended over my 55 gallon.
