A saltwater in a nano is actually very easy to keep up if it will be a fish only, the hard process is to get it started, you will have to remove the ceramic rings in the back chamber and only use the sponge and the carbon for a little bit. buy sand and rock that came out of a running tank in other words "cured" once you have that get salt water that comes from the ocean like catalina, or scripts water if you can get it locally, if not then you can mix it yourself buyting RO water and a bad of salt. then just let it run for 2-4 weeks and then throw in a tester! if he makes it then you are good to go, but before this make sure you test for any ammonia, (if you use pre-cured rock and sand you will be okay) but if not then check for any either way! but from there just add calcium and alkalinity to maintain balance for the live rock and the sand! E.S.V. is a good choice for that. but that is all there is to a nano and a basic set up for fish only....now corals will be a totally different story!
