14 gallon update :(

you can suck the slime out. i used 1/4" airline tubing and syphoned the slime out, the small tubing sucks the water out nice and slow so you can get the slime without draining the water too quickly. new tanks tend to get a diatom algae bloom so it's normal that it's happening, adding the ph will help though. your ph is too low though, you need to raise that. get a buffer and add it to your wc water and work at getting it up slowly.

I would get a new one so you can have a powerhead for your QT if you need it again. You should get a Hydor Koralia Nano. Great powerhead.

6 - 8 weeks is more about the time to ensure ich has gone..yes, the visual look of the spot should be gone by 4 weeks, but you want some monitoring period "after" the cysts have fallen off / died to ensure it does not return..In this time, your display will of stayed fallow and any reminance of Ich will of died..

ok.... the red slime won't stop!!!!

I've done water changes.... cut the amount of food into the tank.... added the second power head......

its starting to choke out my mushrooms!!!!

what do I do get rid of it????

I used a 1/4" tube to suck some out when I did my last water change..... and it WAS gone... most of it at least... now its back!!!!

HALP!!!!

lol.
thanks.

What kind of lights are on this tank? Are you using tap water?

You will also need to lessen the time your lights are on for a while. The slime will go away, just be diligent with your work. I would remove the slime every two days until it just stops coming back and then gradually increase the light cycle.

the lights in the tank are the standard lights that come with the biocube.... I've got the white light programed for 7hrs, the blue light programmed to come one 2 hours before and go off 2 hours after....

and then its got the blue "moon light" at night.....

should I be cutting the light cycle drastically? 5 hrs white light, 1 hr blue before and after? what would be a good cycle?

and in terms of the red slime... just keep using the hose to suck it out?

thanks for your help

That sounds good, back to 5 hrs and keep sucking out the slime. The moon lights are for us not the fish...lol...

What about your water? What are you using? Tap water will almost always cause algae and the slime problem. I had the same problem about one month in on my first tank. I am now using RO water and I don't have this issue with that tank.

Used on RO water with my new tank and I have had a very minor issue with algae and the slime and it has already been resolved, the water makes a difference.

How long has your tank been running? New tanks go through these stages and teach us newbies how to managed these forums...
