My 5 yr old wanted his own tank. Good I thought, I'll show him the ins and outs and he'll have that much more experience for when he is older.

I took media from my other tanks so its cycled and added the following.

4 Cory Julii
3 kuhli loaches (black)
1 Flame Gourami

Now that I think about it it seems like the tank is overstocked, doesn't look it but adult size of all the fish will break the 1 inch per gallon myth rule.

I'm looking at about 23 inches of fish full grown give or take.

Did I already start him off on the wrong foot?

Tank will be medium planted by the time I finish I'm thinking. I do 50% pwcs on all my tanks weekly.

It sounds like you'd be ok for awhile, but like Pappy said it may be too much on the bottom. Maybe pick one and add some other mid to top dwellers.

I know that the inch per G is a myth, but I do factor it in too. Knowing that I can go over or have to stay under if the relative bioload per inch is higher or lower. 2 wrongs don't make a right and 4 Rummies don't equal an 8" Pleco... lol

You think the cories would eat cherry shrimp?

If not I could move them to the 55 gallon and add more kuhlis to the 15 right?

No, they won't eat the shrimp. That sounds like a good plan, cories to the 55 and add a coupla Kuhlis. :)

Sounds good. I'll give them some time to grow out, their like less than an inch now. That way my boy doesn't gripe to much and they aren't being moved around multiples times to quickly. Sort of a QT time anyway since they are all new fish.

Very cool. Good on you for getting him hooked so early! lol

I think him seeing my planted 75 and 55 plus the 30 gallon con tank lightly planted and the 20 gallon Goldfish tank might have helped lol.

I'll get some pics maybe tonight if I remember. Doesn't look like much right now. I didn't really need to trim any plants in the 75 as I did them last week but I was able to get a few sprigs of Wisteria for him.
