You never know what you will end up with when obtaining Juvies so its a good practice to buy 6 let them pair up or colonize and remove whoever is taken a beatin..
 
:iagree: Starting off with at least a trio will usually ensure some breeding activity, but the more the better the chances. I wouldn't trust anyone selling a "proven pair" personally.

I vote for multis. Perfect beginner fish IMO.
