150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

Lookin' good! I feel like the left side of the tank has gotten a bit more attention plant-wise, though?

Yes, I agree (a big sweep from top left to bottom right center and then up or out is the plan). We are gradually making our way to the north forty (that's the right side). The cool part about this tank is the options are countless. We really want to let it grow in for a couple of weeks and see what we like and what we don't - then decide on some additions. Still a little concerned with the Co2 / fert / lighting balance - not sure how the plants will react to what we are currently using. Really want to "try" and keep the algae in check and the plants moving forward.

Gotcha! Sounds like a plan. I'm no help with plants... they don't seem to live long in my tanks... :help: Hah. If you're looking for a neat addition to an algae-busting crew, I recommend checking out Nerite snails! Msjinkzd has several varieties for sale, and many of them are gorgeous. They stay small and can't reproduce in freshwater, so you don't have to worry about a population explosion in the future. And they truly are algae-busters, especially considering their size!

Thanks for the suggestion ... Question (probably stupid question): How do snails and discus do together (water temp, pH, etc)??

That's a good question (and one I didn't think of at all). I'm not sure if nerites can handle Discus temperatures. Msjinkzd has both, but I don't know if she has nerites in that tank. I would imagine that they're fine, though. pH is probably going to be a hang-up here. An acidic pH will lead to shell erosion, so 7.2+ is recommended. I think yours is in the mid-6s, which would pose a problem... msjinkzd, Lupin, and a few others might be able to offer more insight.

Great looking room shots!
