WHITBY, ONTARIO CANADA!
Hey guys

After havin amazing success with my 15g planted i wanna put plants from my 15g (which has become WAYYY over grown)in my 55g ...... but i do not think that my lights will be enough....they are 2-17W fluorescent lights in the hood......i really do not think the this is goin to be enough for a 55g tank.....do ya'll think they could grow??? i am totally fine if they do not grow fast BECAUSE i can just grow the plants really fast in my 15g before i put them in my 55g, i just want them to survive thats all! lol

I will be adding liquid plant food and flourish gravel tabs...but NO flourish excel because i have no money right now and need to save it for my 15g

THANKS

well java moss would probably grow very slowly but thats about the only thing. you may just want to keep them in the 15 until you get better lighting.

I agree, you'd be working with around .7wpg. That's nothing.

Well, unless the java moss was in the upper half of the aquarium I'd question it surviving myself. If your wanting plants in your 55g you should probably look into having a 4' twin tube flourescent fixture of some kind. Either t-12 or t-8 lighting should do for most low to some mid light plants. That being said with money being a limiting factor here I'd probably not put plants in the 55g at this time.

If you have a versa-top, you might put one of those $7.50 shop lights from Walmart on top of the aquarium.

What kind of plants are they? The shop light idea is a good one! If the plants are extra anyway, throw 'em in for a week, if they look like they're dying, put 'em back in the 15.

Er, with that kind of lighting and a relatively deep tank, I wouldn't be so hopeful about the plants growing well. You can try it though, if you have extra plants...
