1800 Gallon Tank

As promised, some pics of the young Discus.
They've been eating very healthily and growing fast. Much bigger now, pictures are 2 weeks old...DSCN3423.jpgDSCN3418.jpgDSCN3419.jpg
Oh, sorry for the dirty glass...mostly the outside. There's some stain/sediment that's not scraped off yet.:silly:
The bigger Discus is one that I have for a long time already, does not win the beauty-contest for sure but he's (sure a he) strong and healthy...

Oh, I had an old white bed-sheet that I've used to get the back and sides covered.
Main reason is to have the Discuss growing up against a neutral and very light background.
To ensure that their colors don't get affected by anything while growing up.

Getting closer to start with this.
Hopefully by december. Some change in plans. Very hard to find large acrylic windows here. Below the largest I found so far.
1) 40 mm. thickness à 1.0 m x 1.2 m à 14,000 THB (450 USD)
2) 25 mm. thickness à 1.2m x 2.4 m à 16,000 THB (520 USD)
When I started using the online calculators a bit, I came to a maximum water-column of 80cm at 25mm thickness.
Now, what I've thought of doing is:
- Get option 2, 25mm. Cut a strip of about 10 cm of, bringing it to 1.00m x 2.4m then shorten it to 2.00m. so the area will be 2.00m 1.00m
- Weld the 10cm strip on top of that, bracing the pane for bending.
- Instead of going full height with the tank, I will lower it to 1.30 or so, with the gravel/sand going 30 to 50cm below the window.
- The backside will go up to 1.80m. Flagstones/Rocks with space for orchids and other plants, waterfall.
- Think Paludarium...giant big river/lake with background way above the water-level.

I think the corner where I plan the tank is excellent for this. Will save me quite some on building, since the structure will be less demanding and costly.
Also, by doing this, I'll be able to make it much more lively and balanced with the house and its surroundings. Main structure not going above the fence, and what does go higher will be full of plants, creating a green barrier with the neighbors.

Tell me what you guys think of it.

Very nice. Love big tanks with medium and smaller fish.

Any updates?

Any updates?

Unfortunately, I am battling a sea around my house for some it e already. Flooded but finally seeing the end. Fish and tanks ok, couple of months, have to see how yearned works out. Factory flooded as well. Plans still there, will sure come.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck.

Just to update ppl following this.
Tank plan has been shelved for now. We had a chance to buy the house next door, so money is out on that if all goes well. Hope the bank agrees as they promised.
Will give me a lot of space for my very own fish-room...hehe

Anyhow, for the big tank, it dropped to last on a long list of renovation and other things.
