Last fall I stole, er purchased a 180 gallon tank with lights, several filter arrangements, stand, protein skimmer etc for the ridiculous price of $200. After having spent all winter collecting parts and building a more aesthetically pleasing stand I am about to fill it and start the bio-cycle. I would like to know if a powerhead (4 came with the package) would be beneficial in a freshwater tank? We will be stocking Angels in it when the water has settled down. Also like to know if I can use the lamps that are in the hood which originally was used over saltwater on this freshwater arrangement. I have read that with f/w the only consideration in lamp output is whatever makes the fish look good. At this time I am not planning any live plant life.:mwave:

add them as needed.

it depends on filtration and water movement.

in a 18- you can get deadspots.
from the sounds of the set up it may have been a marine tank(skimmer is a dead give away)

<--Has some serious Tank Envy ATM! :D

Must...have...pics!

dang and i though 230 for a 90 with stand, canister filter, bonus filter, rock, gravel, cleaning supplies, and some other randomness was a good buy.

grrr

lucky dog!

nice steal, *ahem* i mean purchase!...post some pics

Powerheads could be benificial to quell deadspots & aid in water circulation in a lg. tank. As for the lights, need to know what you got. (super p/u btw!!) "T"

I'll be using a Fluval FX5 canister filter. The filters that were included was a mix of various sized hang off the back style sized for anything from a 5 gallon tank up to about a 75 gallon tank. It also came with a sump for about a 30 gallon tank and a mish-mash of other parts. The guy I got it from bought it from a pet store that was relocating and setting up all new gear. We put water in it yesterday to leak test before getting serious about setting it up. I'm going to let it set for a week then drain it clean it and start setting it up. I'm going to use two Theo heaters on a heater controller so shouldn't have any problem with temp control.
