180g getting closer to being wet.

Are the lights Metal Halide,or compact Fluorescent?

If its saltwater Fluorescent lighting it should be fine for plants.

PS: If you want a really nice angel tank you will want some plants :D

saltwater fluorescent as in actinic?not good for planted tanks.. believe me the color spectrum is in the wrong range. I agree plants with driftwood tangles makes for a nice angel tank as well as discus ;)

No definitely not 4 in use, misinterpretation. I'll be using one. I have one in the tank right now to try and determine it's impact before I actually stock the tank. I have 3 different sizes and will select one based on empty usage then after I start stocking I'll keep a close eye on the occupants to make sure they aren't distressed.

The lighting is CFL, Glad to hear Actinic is the wrong lamp as 3 are burned out! Assuming the standard lamps are cheaper that is. Another question that has popped up is sand or gravel? A book I'm reading says avoid sand like the plague but several on hear have said they wouldn't go back to gravel after converting? What up with that? I have been looking at driftwood in the various stores and so far what I have seen, even the pieces they call large would be dwarfed in this tank and as for plants I haven't done any research in that area yet but am definitely considering live plants versus plastic although I am concerned about turning it into a salad bar for fish.

Powerheads come in different sizes...can you make out any model numbers on them? As others mentioned, what fish you keep will also determine how much flow is allowed.

In a 180, I think you will need to run one or two of them to eliminate dead spots. I also feel a single FX5 isn't enough for a tank that size. Will you be running the sump on it? I would highly recommend to do so. Gives you a spot to put the heaters out of sight.

I hadn't considered using the sump. From my reading I was thinking that the FX5 would be sufficient filtration. I like the idea of relocating the heaters down below but will need to get more info on the sump setup before I go that route. **** there is a lot to learn when you're trying to do this right! Goldfish are a hell of a lot easier, but not an option!!
