Please help me.

I have a nice 180 gallon reef setup that I've been trying to sell with no luck. I had it on Ebay and nobody bid on it with a starting bid of $799.

I thought I had it sold to someone who was going to drive from Indiana, but after many promises to buy it, he backed out on me. Now, I'm in trouble because I sold my house and if the tank is still in the house when it comes time to close the deal, I'll really be screwed because the buyer doesn't do fish tanks, and requires that it be out of the house by closing.

I re-listed the auction. This time I started the bidding at $300 with a "Buy it Now" price of $850. At this point taking a huge loss on the tank comes in at a very distant second place to not being able to close the deal on the sale of my house.

The Ebay item number is 290351699559. I just listed it a few minutes ago, so I can't see it yet. I'll post a link as soon as I can see it listed. The auction is only for 3 days. After having been shafted with a deal outside of Ebay, this time I'm not taking ANY outside offers. I hope you all understand.

Thanks for looking. Feel free to ask any questions you have about the set-up.

Talk about a steal... The empty tank is worth it all by itself!
Unfortunately, you're so far away... :(

Good luck with the sale!

dude if i had had the extra cash id drive up to you right now an take your headache off your hands- good luck w/ the sale and the closing

sadly when you sell a saltwater tank your not going to get nearly what you paid for the tank alone let along the equpiment unless you have something completely crazy..you might wanna try separating everything and see where that takes you.

Agreed that this is potentially a great deal. but i just want to offer a few suggestions. Like someone said above...maybe you would be better off selling this piece by piece. And why cant you just sell or even donate the inhabitants to your LFS and just keep the tank and equipment? You just have a few fish and a load of liverock to move. Seems better than taking an absolute bath on the price.

And i dont mean this to sound rude or insulting in anyway, its just some constructive criticism. Calling this a "reef tank" is a pretty big stretch. Where are the corals? What do you have in there? The live rock looks fairly devoid of life, or at the very least devoid of any coraline algae. Maybe trying to sell this as a FOWLR might work better. Any true reefer isnt going to be super impressed with your set up. Not to say it isnt worth what you're asking, maybe you just need to change the market you're going after.

All that being said...you are like 45 minutes away from me...if i had the money and space for a tank this size, i would come grab it in a second!!! I still say just empty out the livestock, even if you have to give it away, and keep all the hard goods until you can put it all to use again. Goodluck eitherway though!

actually, i am a reefer and this guy has a great setup with much potential. from the pics, i see a whole lot of liverock which goes for about $6 per pound if its fiji, if not fiji, then still $3 + per pound. Also, he has aragonite fine sand which is also extremely expensive and he has a very deep sandbed, which is good for reducing nitrates (which is a large problem in reef setups), he also has a great looking refugium underneath and i think i see some macro algae in there which is also a plus. not to mention all the equipment, pumps, ect. The 180G tank alone with the sand is worth much more than he's asking.

If i lived near you, even within a few hours, I would pick it up in an instant. And even if I was broke, i'd take out a loan.

Bump for a super super awesome deal! Goodluck on the sale.

there is no way his lr is going to go for 6 a lb. Unless its coated in coraline. People sell it at 2 to 4 bucks a pound all day long and have fiji, branches, etc. etc. etc. all coverd with life

Also, he has aragonite fine sand which is also extremely expensive

aragonite fine sand is expensive BUT...means nothing when selling cause he's gonna have to take it out anyways to move that tank so all that bacteria is going to go..also live sand barely sells...and I mean BARELY..talking a dollar a pound IF that most of the time its given away

and he has a very deep sandbed, which is good for reducing nitrates (which is a large problem in reef setups)

reducing nitrates can be fixed by doing water changes and dropping some Caulerpa in the fuge. Deep sand beds are ok but not really a big problem

not to mention all the equipment, pumps, ect.

equipment unless new or barely used is worth barely half of what you paid for it.

The 180G tank alone with the sand is worth much more than he's asking.

the tank and stand are worth around 400 so 300 for everything is a good price but again he'd make more money breaking it up
