180G vs 240G

A basic question....I am looking at a used 180G Acrylic tank. I have been thinking about a new 240G Glass tank, but this 180G opportunity may be too good to pass up.

Besides the obvious (a difference of 60G means you can get a few more goodies in the 240), and with all other things being equal, is there any big difference between a 180 and a 240?

Not too much, depending on the shape of the tank. With this, IMO, you're talking the difference of 1 fish--but you could still have the same size fish as you could with the 240, just one less. Talking about big fish of course, suitable mixes, obviously, 60 gallons won't matter when you're dealing with clown tangs, they won't share no matter what, and mixing 2 large angels can be just as risky.

What stock were you planning with the 240?

I would like a large angle, maybe an Emperor, and a Naso Tang. I would love to have a Clown Trigger, but everything I read says it would not be a good idea with the other things I would like in the tank. Outside of that, it would be a joint decision between my wife (who is kind enough to endulge me on this adventure) and me.

I'd probably hold out for the 240 then--not for the angel, but for the tang. They do much better if given the biggest tank possible.

Of course, it depends on the cost--if we're talking $400 difference, or less, I'd still go for the 240. More than that, well, for me it would depend on how much more.
