180Gal brought back to life - Old Hat

Yeah I might put platy's with Molly's combo 10 of each instead of topping up rosy barbs.

I was considering Angel fish, do you think they will be too slow though?

you should have gotten the gold fish for about 10 cents each if they were marked as feeder goldfishes.just thought you might like t know.

I've never seen feeder goldfish for 10 cents in a shop anywhere in Australia....We used to sell feeder fish (freshwater native gudgeons) 20 for about $5, not sure where you live, but you won't find 10c Feeder goldfish in Australia at any LFS.

I've just gone out the back and picked up some wood from the stream (I live on acreage) it's now soaking, I couldn't find any twisty bits or root stuff just some decent long heavy wood. Gave it a quick wash, I'll put a few bits in at different angles and see how it turns out.

I also caught about 20 mosquito eaters which inhabit pretty much every stream and pond in Queensland - They're sitting in my Q-tank in the corner.

I'm really tempted to setup my 3ft tank again, but next year I'll be too busy.

I'll look into getting a trio of angels. Finished stock might look like this now.

5 Rosy Barbs
10 Danios
10 Mollys misc.
10 platy's
6 Clown loach

6 reticular loach
10 bristlenose
2 Gourami
2 Goldfish
2 Silver Shark
3 Angels

60-70 Fish total, this will be over the next 3-6 months...unless someone comes and offers me a Diamond scale Saratoga.

Work toward real live plants, fake just aren't the same although it looks pretty. Neither is "crystal clear water" a fish-keeping criteria, what are your parameters? I know from others, you ozzies have trouble getting "good fish" but even though your tank "seems" big, you're heading for overstocking at adult fish sizes. Think some more on your stocking levels & compatibility especially with likely breeding.

I'm not suggesting you get your $1.50 back for the goldfish, lol, just trying to help you have a well stocked, compatible tank for the long term, not for what you may have now, however you justify it...sorry to sound so harsh but after 12 years on AC...well, good luck.

Yep Valid,

Sarcasm is indeed hard to convey in text form.

Don't know my actual water parameters but it's the healthiest tank I've had in a long time, what are the chances of any of these fish breeding which I've listed? Aside from the Platy's and Molly's I can't see any of the others breeding...

I've never had a full planted tank I'm used to keeping cichlids after all.

Thanks for the input so far, I'll put some pictures up once I get these couple of pieces of wood I've dug up/salvaged from my property.

BN plecos are pretty easy to breed, with 10 there are sure to be pairs. That's a lot of bottom feeders!

Just 3 angels are hard to keep, they'll fight especially if there is a pair.

oh you live there?i thought you lived in the USA over here i see them for about 10 cents.

fishorama - Yeah there's a local fishbreeder who sells them for about $3ea, so stocking will be easy, I like the thought of many BN's gives me an excuse to setup another tank :P

evil wizard - no worries you're not to know, USA have access to heaps of different fish, many more than what's available in Australia I think mostly due to our Quarantine laws and wildlife conservation.

Anyway I checked out the driftwood I picked up from out back and the water was clear as day so I just stuck it into the tank (soaking for just over a day).

Did another scout through our land today and got some really muddy thick pieces which are soaking now (should take about a week I say, unless I can be bothered scrubbing it and changing the water lots).

So half of my tank is now driftwood, and other old ornaments, it looked good before, but I think once all the wood is in it'll look really good.

Also fishorama - I think I will eventually get two or three live plants to give it some height and "thickness" - we used to have about 10 tonnes to elodea growing out the back but the recent weather has pretty much made that zero.

Here's some pictures. Water is a bit murky because I only put them in about 20mins ago, and two of them still wanted to float.

So I've lost a few fish since last update, I've also put a few more in there....doing a 50% water change now. I'm going to be using tank water, so fresh rain water should be nicer and softer...

I've found some sweet pieces of driftwood, the other fish aren't dying off so I don't think there's a problem with the wood - it's from a pond where the water quality isn't awesome but its been soaked, washed and scrubed and soaked again.

I bought some danio's and loaches yesterday, and one of each has died. My silver shark is on its way out, looks like bloat...the other fish are showing no signs of illness.

Once the water has settled after the water change I'll post some more pictures of the new wood.
