I have experience, plenty to be exact, with freshwater but i now want the beauty of a salt tank.

im either going to go with a 100 or 120 gallon. there is a slight possibility of a 180.

i want beginner fish, but colorful, active fish. i think i narrowed it to what ive liked but i dont find too many compatibility charts, so heres a list:

Blue Tang
Clownfish
Wrasse (6 line?)
"Court Jester" Goby
and i like the Firefish too
basically im looking for a peaceful tank.

what out of that list is compatible? and how many do you think of any. i have been reading too many different things on it.

i also want to keep a fish only for now til i get more experience, so what other equipment to you recommend besides what i have? i got the filters heaters, powerheads and stuff. do you recommend a skimmer or anything else?

I also like the dogfaced puffer... would that work with anything?

Throw in a trigger and some lion fish and call it a day...OH wait thats my pred tank!! I think your tank would look nice as you listed, minus the puffer as Gman noted. IMO get the 180 or you will wish you had!!!

worst thing i ever did was start off small, but, looking back, i could not really afford anything else..If i was to do it all again, i would of just saved and started off big.....

Oh, and dont forget JoJo's article....

All of the above look good and I agree about the puffer- might want to avoid that guy. :D

What kind of clownfish? Some are more aggressive than others (maroons, some tomato clownfish). If you're referring to something like ocellaris, then I would go with two of them.

The blue tangs tend to school in the wild but 'could' be aggressive with each other in a tank. They're also more susceptible to ich and HLLE than other tangs but are awesome fish and should last a while with great water conditions and care.

The rest seem fine- I like firefish too.

I would also recommend the largest tank possible that you can go with- they're more stable, provide more swimming room and are just wonderful to look at. :D

A skimmer is not necessary but I would definitely recommend one. You may be able to ween yourself off of it down the road if you wish. Also, don't forget a decent hydrometer or refractometer and test kits.

Let us know what you plan to do!

Don't forget to consider a schooling fish such as chromis or anthais. I've read many articles on the value of these often overlooked dither fish in helping to keep the peace and encouraging other fish to come out of hiding and spend more time in the water column. Chromis are easier to care for and can be kept in schools as small as 3. 3 or 5 would probably work great (they like odd numbers...).

Puffers are great fish IMO, but if you're planning on having any type of reef setup in the future they are probably best avoided. In addition to info mentioned above, puffers are likely to eat snails and small shrimp or hermit crabs.

Also, longer is better than taller for tank setup so I would rule out the 120. 180, 125 (both 6 ft.), or even 75 or 90 (4ft.) if your looking for something not so large would work fine.

Or a 150! :D

Wow, I didn't realize they made 80s that long either. I would think that would be a little squished though.

Most of the dwarf angels are brightly coloured, flame angel, lemon peel....
definately go the biggest you can.. we got our 42 gallon in Jan.. looking at larger tanks already but money prevailing!! LOL.. way too addictive...

I agree go with the largest tank you can afford, or save to the one you really want. We bought a 56gl tank in Feb and already want something larger, which we can't do until we get our own place. I'd get something over the 100 range if you can, you can keep some pretty neat and big fish in there.

Well Thanks so far.
it will more then likely be the 180, after i reseal it.

to 5xevy.... they would be ocellaris. so 2?

how many of the others? single, or is there a pair in there? i know the tangs can be aggressive towards each, but i though blues where the least likely... maybe that was the yellows?
