Hey, I decided to revive a tank, however this happens to be a 2.5 gallon. I cleaned it out, add my old tank water (20 gal), sand, and Java moss. Right now it's under about 26 watts of light. Any ideas what to do with it?

Going to pick up a heater and HOB mini filter later...

I also had a 2.5 setup as a fry tank, but being so small and short I had a 13watts of light to it and algae grew like crazy. It'd make a nice shrimp tank, but as for fish I'm not sure. What type of hob filter are you getting? gotta make sure the current doesn't stir up the sand too much. I had to use a sponge filter in mine.

Crowntail betta. I have a 2.5 myself. A bright red betta a few guppies 2 small mystery snails and purple sand. Looks good imo.

That is a ton of light for such a small tank. With that much light you may not need a heater. That is enough for corals. I would get lots of plants to use up nutrients before the algae goes nuts. A betta, honey gourami, or select nicely colored male feeder guppies could go well in there.

I'd stick with shrimp or heterandria formosa in such a small tank. A betta or a trio of male guppies would work too.

Very little beneficial bacteria reside in the water, not enough to seed your filter anyways. I would empty out the old water and replace it with new, clean water.

A quick squeeze from the media on your 20 into the new filter should help jump start the colony.

As for stocking, really I would say go planted invert.

Okay, I'll do a water change after studying...

Yeah I have plenty of old filter media, so when I order the new filter, All squeeze some in there.

Problem though, I actually do need a heater if I want the bacteria to survive. 57 degrees....
