I have a 29 gallon tank, with 6- 2" tiger barbs and one 2.5" tiger oscar. They seem like they mix well, but the oscar doesn't seem like he gets any food. The barbs eat it right away. I put feeders in there, but he can't eat a whole rosey red yet. What do you suggest?

yeah the tiger O will love them as soon as he can eat them. Also the 29 is way to small for the O....I've been there done that many many years ago....also you really don't need to feed the O feeder fish they will eat anything that is put into the tank. I would suggest at least a 75 for the O and then if you want to try the tiger barbs in that take then go for it. More room to run ad hide from the forever hungry O.

Personally, I would suggest you take the oscar back or move him to a larger tank if you have one. You need at least a 50 gallon for an oscar, if not larger. Eventually, he won't even be able to turn around comfortably in a 29g. Also, while he is definitely still a baby, you really risk killing him by stunting his growth in the very near future. Oscars grow fairly quickly in a proper environment. By placing him in a tank smaller then required, eventually his exterior will stop growing while his internal organs continue to grow, forcing him into a slow and agonizing death.

(Hate to sound harsh, but these are the facts).

As far as feeding goes, you could try feeding the barbs at one end of the tank while you feed the Oscar with a turkey baster at the other end of the tank, using the baster to drop the food literally right in front of him. (this is a common way to feed Discus).

Very unfortunate news, my brother called me from home while I'm at work and said the tiger O is dead. I'm assuming he starved, but any ideas? I got him from Meijiers a Local supermarket, NEVERAGAIN!!!!

No,
next time do "Your" homework and research the types of fish your interested in. Meet their needs before you get them, before you have problems, before you come online only to be met with the right info at the wrong time.
Don't get anymore fish right now, just try keeping what you have alive while you use this site and other sources to learn as much as possible about fishkeeping. I advise you to read all the articles and stickies here at AC and elsewhere.
If you are really set on a Oscar I suggest www.oscarfish.com/ ,
I frequent that site and its a excellent Oscar specific site/forum with good articles, advisoryteam and the search engine has everything you could posibly want to know archived.

i returned the tiger O and got a full refund. not getting another till i get a much larger tank. got another 29 gallon tank that i'm going to put my barbs in by themselves for now. the guy who gave me the tank gave me his fish too. i couldn't say no, cause he was going to flush them. so he gave me about 3-guppies, 5-8 guppy fry, 3-rasbora, 1 upside-down catfish, 1-dragon fish, 1-1.5" ghost shrimp and 2-dwarf gorami. my current tank seems over crowded, but i need to cycle the other tank before i put them in.
