"2" 8 inch fish in a 45 gal?

What kind of 8" fish are you thinking of getting? A regular 45 is 36" long and may not give them the space they need to swim around. You may want to look at a 45 gallon LONG which are 48" long but your depth drops from 24" on a regular to 16" on the long.
actually a long time ago i had a few tanks.
a 125 with a red snakehead and a 80 with a medium sized arrowana.
that was a long time ago, and i gave all my stuff away to my uncle.
i actually ran into a friend that has a few channa guaccha? not sure if i spelled it correct. common name i think is dwarf snakehead. right now they're about 3 inches.
anyways i been looking for a smaller species ever since, but now i finally have the chance to get a few. so im looking for a tank, but now i have less space in my new room. i got a space about 32inches in length & 14-16 inches in width. might be able to squeeze a few more inches.
is it possible? or should i just forget about it?

Inch/gallon rules are invalid. If the fish lacks room to move comfortably, it won't work. Focus on behavior--if the fish needs lots of room to move, swim fast, etc, a bigger tank will be more comfortable and less stressful for the fish. A fish that lurks in nooks and crannies, moves slowly, etc will be comfortable in a smaller face as long as they aren't forced to bang into sides to turn around--and the filtration is up to the task.

hmmmm when i had my red, he wasnt as active as my arrowana. im not too sure, but do the gachuas behave somiliar to the reds? do they needs alot of swimming room?
i moved some stuff around, and i got about 3 ft in length, hopefully i could fit a nice tank there.
i also have a dresser, that looks pretty sturdy, but im not sure. i know that tanks can get very heavy. is it safe to leave a tank 45-60 gallons on a dresser?

Without using any rule of thumb, and with no regaurds to what type of fish you have, I would not put 2 8" anything fish in a 45. God, even a slow moving laying around all day 8" Pleco wouldnt look too happy in a small tank like that. Sure he could move from side to side ok, but when he wanted to turn around he'd darn near scrape the sides of the tank.

I wouldn't try it - the tank could weigh 400 - 600lbs when full of water, gravel etc. I wouldn't put anything beyond a 20g on something not specifically made (either by a store or DIY) to hold the weight.bizzy420 said:

for a standard glass tank with the usuall decor, estimate 10-20 lbs per gallon. if you are worried, I wouldn't recommend it. better safe and dry that wrong and wet with dead fish and a broken dresser.
