great idea, twig! Some red cherry shrimp would be awesome. They're colorful, active, and fun. Much easier to see than ghost shrimp, too 
Although I personally prefer the "personalities" of ghosties. Mine do the craziest antics like swimming upside-down at the surface to catch flakes!

I don't know if shrimp are a good idea, I have seen ghost shrimp take adult pond snails off the wall and eat them. I'll probably just keep it snail only. Thanks anyway!
if i were you, i wouldn't waste a perfectly good tank on snails. you could buy a cheap 10g rubbermaid bucket, put it in a warm place, even the basement or a heated garage, and run a filter on it. then the snails have more space and you can reclaim the 2g for a fish and make it look nice. snails are pretty tough, when i moved i did exactly what i just said and they were fine. they don't need it too warm, just as long as they don't freeze.
run a second filter on the 2g for a week or so, then when/if you move the snails you'll already be cycled.
you can easily make it look nice from above with gravel and plants, like a mini-pond, or just leave it bare and float some plastic plants that eggs can be attached too. if you don't worry about it looking nice and leave it bare it's much easier to clean when needed.

personally I think a 2G best purpose is snail keeping. I wouldn't keep ANYTHING except snails, shrimp, or a ADF in a tank that small.
as long as you had a little heating pad underneath or some tiny in-tank heater it would be fine for a betta. much better than an unfiltered vase, in any case. also good for 3 or 4 least killifish, esp. if you wanted to try your hand at a planted tank.
IMO bettas do much better in at least 5G of water and a LOT of people here would agree. you're right, a 2G is much better than a bowl, but it's just not good enough. and on least killies... he could, but least killies breed EXTREMELY fast, and they don't eat thier fry, so they would eventually overpopulate a 2G. a 5G again is a much better choice.wataugachicken said:
I too am against putting bettas in anything smaller than 5 gallons. Its just a cheap little plactic tank from walmart, only cost 8 bucks, so I am not wasting anything by using it just for snails. I'm just going to keep it a snail only tank and put in some java moss and anacharis to make it look good, and give the snails plenty of places to lay their eggs.
You may want to look into Malaysian Trumpet Snails. They only reach about an inch in length, they feed off of leftover food and dead organic matter, and best of all, they give birth to live young. They can live in a wide range of temperatures, but breed more rapidly in more tropical conditions. They don't eat plants, either.
