i'm starting to restock my 55 gal. I went to LFS and got these two pearls, they've been doing ok until a couple hours ago....they started freaking out about the light so i turned it off for a while. they calmed down so i turned it back on and they started freakin out again.... They've been calm all day, i'm not really sure what's going on any body got any ideas?

Give them 24-48 hours to get used to your tank in a dark environment. Then turn on the room light first before the tank light.

I agree. If you just purchased the fish they need time to acclimate to their surroundings. I would keep the lights off for a day or two and just use the ambient light in the room. When I introduce new fish, I keep the lights off for the first night and do not feed either until the second night.

it's like they took them and balled them all up...question #2 could this mean they are getting ready to spawn...or am i getting a little ambitious. I 'm pretty new at this stuff so i'm a little ignorant about this so please bear with me...I know the water temps right for them and they had been together in the same tank for a while at the LFS so they're really not strangers.

thanks

I think they probably did pull the plants out of the substrate. Gouramis like Bettas, are Bubblenest builders. The male is the one who builds the bubblenest so that the once the male and female have mated, the female releases her eggs and the male or both of them, scoop the eggs up in there mouths and deposit them in the bubblenest where the male guards them. They say the female should be removed once the eggs have been placed in the bubblenest so the male does not attack her. <------Correct me if I'm wrong on that part please. The bubblenest looks like of course bubbles but to me it looks like foam. I had a betta that did this and his nest looked like foam and I had a gourami that did this also. I litterly thought someone had spit in my tank until I did some research and asked some questions.

I have pearls. Aren't they gorgeous? They can be very shy and take longer to get used to their new surroundings. Just give them time, they will come around.
