2 return pumps vs 1 return pump?

thanks :) Its going to be bare buttom, that way i'll be able to easily syphon the poop .
Might add in some driftwood. but not yet sure. i'll be adding 10 clown loaches from my other tank. The tank is outdoors and its been up for about 2 weeks only, I got the filter from my other arowana tank, expecting to skip cycling my tank, but it did not work, currently have high ammonia, but today i detected .25 nitrite.

how do you keep your water temp down? in cycling, did you move your filter emptying the water from it? how long was it empty and how long did it take total that you didnt have circulation in the tank?

I think because of the volume of the water in the tank, the temperature doesn't get really high. Also it has shade from fruit trees.
for the filter, It was running in the other tank, when i moved the fish into the new tank, I also moved the filter , so the old filter media was out of the water for only less than a minute.

:iagree:except that it isnt that crucial to have that much flow/ backup. i all wase keep a large air pump around for scenarios like that. the pump will give oxygen and movement in your water ample enough till you get your pump fixed.
but how to feed the bacteria in the sump while said pump is getting fixed and what becomes of the tank with less bacteria and flow in the mean time. i think a second pump is a much better option than lugging buckets or w/c's everyday in the event of a failure.
