A while ago I was given a tank full of tropical fish ,I think it has too many in it as the tuxedo platys and mollies have been breeding too much ,but anyway the tank seems to be settled now in its new home ,there is one 2 spotted Gourami in the tank I think is female and today she has started to hit herself against the glass ,she has been fine and has only started this today ,I am getting worried she will hurt herself or crack the glass even !
Has anyone any idea why she is doing this ? is it stress because there is alot of other fish in the tank?
if anyone can help thanks

i'm not sure why shes doing it, but its probably not good and she could injure herself

as far as the glass, i wouldn't worry, at all, there's no way a gourami is going to break the glass on the aquarium. Think of all the water pressure that's on there right now, the fish tapping it is miniscule compared to everything else, the glass on that tank is a lot stronger than you think

the tank holds approx 24 us gallons/20 uk gallons I think
it has 1 red tailed shark
1 guppy
1 sword tail
3 cardinal tetras
2 shrimps
a couple of other fish that I'm not sure what they are
and way too many platys from large ones to babys mostly red tuxedo platys and quite a few marigold platys too even one shiny blue platy ?
there is a few adult sail fin mollies and some young and adult females too

So far today I havent seen her hit the glass yet ,what she was doing was hitting her back end against the glass like she was whipping it with her tail then darting about

I have been trying to find homes for alot of the platys but so far no luck ,I put about 10 into the other tank we already had that has cat fish in it and you cant even see the difference in the large tank it still looks over crowded

What are your water parameters. Sounds like a very crowded tank. Also, what is your maintenance schedule like and what do you do to clean the tank?

I havent tested the water yet since I have had the tank
yes I know the tank is over crowded and I'm trying to find some homes for some of the fish ,I have been asking everyone I know but no luck in finding a home yet ,even my local pet shop that sells fish dosent want any
so far when the gravel starts to gather muck I have been siphoning it till I take about 4 gallons out in 2 goes

do you think the gourami was doing this with stress because of the over crowding ?

I am going to put up adverts in all my local shops to try and homes for some of the fish ,hopefully I can rehome some soon
I have had the tank for about 6 weeks and was given it will all the fish allready in it as the guy no longer wanted them

Well, overcrowding like that can lead to massive water quality issues. Some fish deal poorly with that and the additional stress of being packed together like sardines.
