20 Gallon Fish Choices

By the way, I just have to say that it is hilarious that people are making their own "rock with string" graphics and using them in their profile. That story had me in stitches.

Here's a question. Will different types of Tetras school together, or do you have to get all of the same kind? There are a number of different tetras on the list and I wondered if I can mix and match?
Same kind.
Some will school and it won't matter, like tiger barbs, green tiger barbs, and albino tiger barbs. However, you'll notice they are all "tiger barbs". It's just a color difference. You could school different colors of skirt tetras, but they all should be skirt tetras.

Now neon, glo-lite and cardinal tetras are all different kinds of fish, so you need to make sure there's 6 of whatever you choose.

That's roughly 17 1/2 inches of adult fish. I have 18 gallons of water in my tank.
Argh, don't use gallons per inch. It's really not a good measurement at all.

Only problem I see with your list is the corycat, and *possibly* the gourami and guppy. Watch out for any aggression between the two. Guppies can be nippy.

The corycats need to be in groups of 3 or more and *most* corycats will not live long unless they are. Anyway your LFS can get panda cories for you? They can probably order them. They are very small and you could put three in there.

So again the problem with bottom feeders, too big or you need too many. With the snail do I really need a cory or loach on the bottom? Not that I don't find the bottom feeders interesting, but if I don't have to have one (or more) I would rather choose other fish for the middle/top level.

I suppose I could order a kuhli loach or the panda corys you mentioned. I am doing a fishless cycle (see my other thread) and at the end am looking to fully stock so I need to get all of the fish at once or very nearly so (within a few days).

Maybe an Oto catfish? I'm not sure if they can be by themselves or in a group of 3 but they don't get very big and do a good job of cleaning.

qreat question on research of fish

aklaum,

great question, I'm having the same problem with researching fish types and personalities.

Does anyone recommend a website, google doesnt work for everything!

I cant believe you wrote all the fish types down at the LFS, did you close the place down? lol

caps,

I didn't close the place down. I was just typing (thumbing) furiously on my Blackberry. I tried to make it look like I was just sending e-mails while scrutinizing the labels on every single tank. I don't think it worked... :)
