20 gallon long paludarium?

I was reading that mature newts will sometimes eat feeder guppies...if I kept some small guppies or minnows in there with the expectation they might become snack foods, would that be okay?

I've got some ideas in my head right now. I wish I was decent at drawing so I could sketch them out, alas, I am not.

Don't be affraid to allow the land to grow out of the tank. It makes for a stunning addition o the concept. It does require a bit of thought but well worth the adventure.

Bad Idea! Newts are escape artists.. they can and will climb out of the tank you need a tight fitting cover.
