I'm going to be getting a 20gal long pretty soon and i wanted to get some opinions on what to put in there. i would prefer a more colorful tank with any as many fish as i can have in there without any aggression. i wanted chichlids but shelldwellers aren't available where i live and the rams i've seen don't look very healthy. i considered getting a convict and firemouth but that would just be a little boring i still like those fish so any suggestions with them would be appreciated and also i'm not really set up to house fry that's why i was going to go with a single convict and single firemouth. any suggestions that would make that tank as interesting as it can be would be great.

thanks,
Louie

a convict and a firemouth is pretty much your max... I don't know, as my expertise is mainly with catfish, not chichlids

well i'm not just limiting it to chichlids i just like cons and firemouths. suggestions with other fish are welcome also

Not very colorful, but if it were mine I would probably go with 10 white clouds and 6 albino cories. A good filter like a penguin 200 and a heater set at 70ish would be nice too.

hmmm...

hows this sound?

1-2 drawf gourami (single male or m/f pair), your choice of colour variety
3 platys (1 male to 2 females)
8 neons
5 ottos

I have bolivian rams - they are hardier fish and fun to watch when they spawn. But, I always wanted a tank with a bunch of cories for the bottom, they are so cute! I don't think you can do cories and bolivians though, not in a 20...
Have you thought about dwarf rainbows?
Cathy
So many fish... so little time.

Sounds like my kind of tank! Cories and White Clouds are my favorities! Hmmmm not that it's my tank :)

It's too bad you can't find the shellies where you are. A 20long is perfect for a nice colony of multis. I have a bunch in a 20long and it's a very interesting and fun tank to watch.

What about small rainbows ? I have three threadfin rainbows that are very colorful and active....the pondetta blue-eyes are a fantastic little fish as well, if you can find any.

in my 20 high i have 2 powder blue gouramis, 3 platy's(1 male 2 females), 3 albino cory's and 10 neon tetras....

it is a very colorful tank, and all of the fish get along very well....

it is also very easy to keep the water quality top shelf....
