20 Gallon Low Light Planted Tank Build Journal! FINALLY!

Looking good, Patty! I love the java moss, I was thinking about getting some myself and tying it down to the top piece of my driftwood.

Give it a try! The fish and shrimp love it. Looks awesome too.

Long Overdue Update!!!

Hi guys!!

Its been awhile since I have done a update on my tank! I have been battling leeches in the tank!!

I lost a lot of fish. I lost all of the red cherry shrimp and CPDs (celestial pearl danios)!! I also lost 5 habrosus corydoras and the zebra nerite snail!!!

I was down to 8 Cardinal tetras, 3 cories, and the red spot nerite snail!! So I took the fish and plants out and did a complete removable of the gravel. hosed the tank down with bleach and super hot water (had to wear oven gloves to hold hose). That was yesterday. It looks like I got rid over them (I hope). The fish are swimming and acting normally.

Water parameters are 0,0, 5ppm

Update pics and/or video tomorrow!!

Ahh jeez what a bummer :( Any ideas on how you got those leeches? They had to be hitchhikers. But on the brightside at least all the survivors seem to be doing well. Any pictures? Also i remember following this thread and ive used it as inspiration to start my own planted tank! :) not much in it yet but i do intend on buying more in the near future along with a better light.

Thank you!
Where'd the leeches come from?
According to researching online, the leeches came either on a plant or attached on a fish. Didn't see any on the fish when they arrived. I guess lesson learned, need to dip plants before placing in tank. And quarantine the fish.

Patty, you did a great job if that tank and plants look that awesome after a complete tear-down, clean and re-do!! Are you using all new substrate?

Hi Fresh!!

Long time since last post. Thank you for the comment. Used same substrate. Soaked the substrate and mopani wood first in a very salty solution for several hours, then soaked it in extremely HOT water for several hours. Rinsed it well and dip the plants in a bleach solution then put the tank together again. Hopefully that got the job done!!

How are your tanks coming along? How is your wisteria doing? As per my post mine melted!! :(
