20 gallon metal-frame show tank - Should I?

Sorry! I picked it up an then had to go to work! Its in decent condition, the tar has been silicones over and could use a touch-up. Metal needs cleaning, light still works! The base is that bumpy glass you see in bathroom windows. I'll photo it! It came with a bunch of old school supplies like a dynaflo filter, air stones from the 70s, filter floss, brass gang valves, etc.. Very cool! Will photo in the morning but the CL picture was the actual tank.

the silicone is in you're tank was probably done much after the tank was built originally thay built these tank and sealed them with tar on the out side often times if the tar is in good shape you can just remelt it ether in warm water or with a hair dryer to seal the tank.

Thanks for the info.. I was thinking how I should use the tank. I've never seen one like it. Is the silicone really going to adhere to the slate?

Everything I've ever read and heard says silicone does not stick to slate, but I don't have first hand knowledge.

well i've silicone slate tank and had them hold ive also had them not hold water then i siliconed them. i think it more has do with if the slate is broken or not. if you have any chips in it i feel youre probably going to not get the best seal, but if it's a whole piece of slate you should be alright.


patrick tank looks amazing, for polishing up the mettal you want togo from a low grit sand paper to a varry high grit than use a polishing agent. you might even beable to use the car hed light polishers kit's that you can attach the a drill gun.

I think because mine is bigger it has the thicker metal frame in the back toward the bottom. I like the look of the uniform thickness , and yours is so clean I'm jealous. I think I prefer the slate bottom though.

purokogi the tank you have was made by a a diffident company then patricks tank, that's why it has a different design youre tank.

rubbing compound? idk how deeply set in those stains are but that could work.

Just use Chrome cleaner...

I have a rubbing compound handy but no chrome cleaner. I'll have to try both of those if I ever get a day off of work..!
