I really love this year's contestants, but some of them are just SOOOOO derivative of past winners. Sad to see that some of the more original ones didn't score higher. Can't get over the quality of hardscape these people are able to find though... One day the hobby in the US will catch up. Hopefully...

ADA, a lot of same old, same old. It's certainly nice to see some more creative aquascapes, but they usually don't make it very far in their competition.

Funny how so many of the copy-cat designs are from the 2008 contest though. The grand prize, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place tanks have numerous emulators in the top 27.

I like some of the rock work, but they are being critical, and the comments about the black edge rim in one of the tank.......like everyone should have ADA seamed tanks...is a bit snooty. Judging is not easy,however............some of the rock work is well done.

Fish? You mean there are fish in these tanks and that have been there for years?
Not likely, a few tetras added........yawn........

Excellent photographic skills.

But...are these good examples of aquarists?
Not aquascapers, or photographers, but aquarist?
I don't know and cannot judge that.

Regards,
Tom Barr

Hmmm. The tanks and scapes are pretty, no doubt. But for my tastes, they're like looking at the rooms/homes in Architectural Digest -- lovely but not very livable. I personally prefer looking at, and am more inspired by, AC members' tanks and scapes.
