So I have my 20g tank that my dad uses as his fish tank because he became jelious of my fish. Very weird fish and setup with in tank filter, bad lighting, 2 electric yellows, 3 of some kind of fish idk, raephael catfish which I put in there because didn't fit in other tank I had him in and 2 checkerboard cichlids...All of these fish are great together and don't attack each other. I am thinking of trading him my 29g tank that just is running for the 20g. The tank is the kind you get at Wal-Mart and isn't that good of a tank except for the tank itself.

THE PLAN:
New Heaters: ???
New Glass Top: http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3731+3781&pcatid=3781
New Lighting: http://www.ahsupply.com/18_or_24_w_kits.htm
New Filter:http://kensfish.com/tomcanisterfilters.html
More Plants: Bob's or someone else
Substrate: Already have eco-complete
UV Sterilizer: ??
Anything else?

I want this tank to be a planted tank with shrimp on the bottom and no idea what swimming around. I don't want a fish that has to hide in caves or anything I want them to be in the middle to top swimming. IDEAS?

In my 35g have a school of 10 Harly Rasboras. 5 Neon Tetras. 5 Cherry Barbs (1 male, 4 Female) and 2 Angel fish. The Rasboras keep in a nice tight school at the top. The tetras stay close and usually hang mid range. And of course the Barbs are all over the place. For the most part it's a peaceful tank. I plan to go live plants in that tank, but I'm doing the learning curve on another tank right now. And I'm finding out there is a LOT to learn.

so its a walmart tank? made by Aqua-Culture? theyre really not too bad. replace the filter? yeah id say so. replace the fixture/hood? no, if its an incandescant hood then put some CFLs in it and that would save you quite a bit of cash.

I'd get a big school of small tetras. I've fallen inlove with Flame Tetras and Black Phantoms. Some Corydoras and a pair of Rams/Apistos.

You might be bottom heavy so you might want to get some sort of upper level fish such as Clown Kilies.

They should. This is a 29G right?

If this is just a 20G, I'd just recommend to get a small school of Tetras, Corydoras and either GBRs. You might get away with a pair or clown killies later on.
