True research into prophecies and predictions is certainly possible, it lives in the realm of human psychology. In fact this kind of research is how we come to define terms like confirmation bias. The human mind is a powerful pattern finding machine, the way people assign meaning to vague meaningless claims is testament to that. The researcher isn't the one who assigns meaning to the predictions, the researcher instead observes and determines if the prediction is accurate etc... When they are accurate (the vast majority are not) it's the researchers job to determine if it was statistically likely for a guess to be accurate under the circumstances, or to find underlying causes for how the prediction came to be accurate. (spoiler: no one has found a supernatural cause yet).
