29 gallon Tanganyikan Community help, please?

Lacustricola pumilus are occasionally available from Atlantis. They're a Tanganyikan endemic Killie suitable for a 29.

I'd do a calvus or comp along with a group of multi's or Julies. They will breed and need to expand their territory as the colony grows.

I like the idea of a calvus and a group of multies. How many is a group? 6?

Are these biotrope-appropriate dither fish? Would adding them to the other 2 groups max out the bioload/aggression?

I may be talking to myself at this point. :)

What about a group of Neolamprologus ocellatus and a (black) calvus? Would that be suitable?

They're a shallow water species generally found near river inlets into the lake.

I've had praecox do well in a 30 gallon (3 foot) but wouldn't have them in anything less.

I'm curious if people have had success mixing Aplocheilichthys pumilus (Lacustricola pumilus) in tang tanks since they seem to be a more shallow water species than any of the cichlids.

Caudopunctatus and a Calvus would work..

Kicking a dead horse now but I agree with what's been said. The only thing I'd add is to keep in mind that even though Calvus grow excruciatingly slow a pair will eventually need a 40 breeder. One of the shellies, caudos, or juli ( transcriptus ), sp. and a Calvus/ Comp. should work fine. If you go with a pair of Calvus buy them small and you'll have a few years before needing to upgrade. Dithers are tough in a tank that small. Definitely no Africans fit the bill. I would look into smaller Danio sp and would definitely add them to keep your residents out and about.

IMHO no rainbow belongs in anything less than a 40 gallon tank. Rainbows are schoolers, and need lots of room to swim.... If you reeeaaaly want chiclids in a 29 than just get a pair of convicts! Great fish that are 100 % friendly <------ (sarcasm) :grinyes::grinyes::liar::rolleyes:

Right now I have a spawning pair of cutteri in a 29 along with probably 80 1.25" fry and a handful of juvie BN pleco's. In the other 29 I have a pair of oblongums and their brood of 200+ .5 -.75" fry.
Ocellatus are tough to pair up in a much larger tank, highly unlikely to work out in a 29. The spawning pairs I have in the 29's were well-established and strongly bonded before they were moved into the smaller tanks.
