I've finally purchased a new 29 gallon tank and I'd like someone to help me on the wpg issue. I have two questions (maybe 3).

I currently have a 55w CF and a 20w NO FL strip light which I know will fit on my 29 gallon. The problem is that now that I have a taller tank (used to have the 20 gallon long), instead of having 3.75 wpg, now I have 2.6 wpg. Will this wattage still require that I add CO2 to the tank? I believe I still do, but I'm no expert.

Should I retrofit my 20 watt hood for another 55 CF if in the future I want to add say..hair grass or another type of foreground plant? I know that that will give me about 3.79 wpg, but I'm considering the height of the tank. I know that I would definitely have to inject CO2 if I upgrade my light at that wattage. I want to know if the 2.6 wpg will be enough for the foreground plant that I suggested.

Thanks so much for your help.

With 2.6 wpg, I'd still recommend injecting CO2, as it's beneficial for the plants.

As for retrofitting your 20 NO fluorescent to a 55 CF, I'd say "why not" and do it :)

Getting more light is always good, but you'll then definitely need to step up on fertilizers and also CO2 injection will be a must.

Thanks Darkblade48. ;)

I appreciate your advice. I'm going to order the kit from AH Supply and see how it goes.
