29 gallon vs 37 gallon?

Well, I got the 37gal! Here's a pic.

The Fluval AquaClear 50 filter? It'll be alright for the 37g. Remember that more filtration is almost always better, and you may be able to get the FAC 70 online for the same price as the FAC 50 in the store if you're willing to wait. If you also buy the heater online, the shipping might be free. and one great thing about these filters is the fluval sponge filter intake covers at the store for $3 fit nicely onto the intake tube

Actually for the depth on the tank if it is 22.5 inches wouldn't two AC 20's do more for the tank. It just seems like a lot of water and depth for just one filter to handle. At 30 inches long you would put one on each side of the tank and get better filtration all around rather than in just the middle or one side. Just my .02 but technically I think either one 50 or two 20's would be fine. I had a AC50 on a 20 gallon tank and the water was clearer when I replaced it with two 20's on each side.

I picked up a marineland penguin 200 today. I liked it because the intake tube has a middle intake as well as a bottom. I figured with a tall tank like this that would be good. What do you all think? I can take the penguin back if I should get something else. I also looked at the fluval c4.

A 200 would be alright, but more could be better depending on what you plan to put in the tank. Two 150's or a 200 and a 150 would be nice. I do like the biowheel filters though. IMO, the biowheel is a good design for collecting beneficial bacteria.

37's are nice, but be prepared to get wet when you have to reach around in there. They're DEEP. Put a wet suit on. LOL!

The other nice thing about them is, the 37's I've seen have a top/center brace, where 29's do not. 29's bow out when filled with water because there's no brace.

I don't mind getting wet!:) it does have a center brace at the top but it seems real flimsy.

I have a 36 gallon bow tank with a marineland penguin 200 with bio wheel and filter and a aquaclear 50 heater my tank has been up and going since 2007 and love it! I would go with the 37 gallon. Good luck!

Yeah, those center straps are designed to work in tension, so they look kind of thin and flimsy. Without it, the 37 would really bow out in the center once filled to the top.

^ +1 the center brace is strong when pulled by the glass, but be careful you don't put too much downward pressure on it. My mom had an older 55 and broke the center brace during a water change. it bowed like crazy (luckily it didn't break and tsunami her)
