I have a planted 29g with

8 pristella tetras
5 peppered corydoras
3 otos

I plan on adding a few more each of the corys and otos, and was wondering what else would work in there. I want something a little larger, since all of the fish I have are on the small side, and preferable something colorful and peaceful. First community tank in a long time, so any suggestions are appreciated

1 gourami of any kind would work. Dwarf gouramis are especially colorful.

A pair of german blue rams, apistos, or kribensis are always nice.

gouramis are really pretty fish. I don't know anything about them but would love to have a couple. Are they aggressive?

I have a dwarf gourami who's the gentlest thing on earth - and a very very pretty blue and pink stripe. However - word of caution - Gouramis tend to be the most variable fish in temperament - I've heard horror stories from some people on here who seem to have particularly nasty ones. I *think* this does not apply to dwarfs though.

I agree a dwarf gourami would be great. A male betta might be nice too.

I would disagree on the kribs, they aren't the greatest fish for a peaceful community usually.

I have a Moonlight Gourami and he doesn't mind the other fish in the tank. He's always looking for me to go by and comes right to the front when I do. Very friendly.

dwarf gouramis tend to be aggresive to males in smaller tanks and can get ripped or torn fins from displaying/fighting. Gouramis do however become very friendly towards thier owners, i recently had one (died) that would eat out of my hand and would "nip" me whenever i tried to do any tank maintanence!

These would be great, especially the apistos. Bolivian Rams are neet too but they're not that colorful. You know the old line about a great personality but doesn't look that great. Checkerboard Lyretail Dwarf Cichlids are pretty and amusing too.

They can be. Sometimes the males get quite nippy with other fish. Especially tetras. I don't like the gouramis/tetra mix myself. Some people do it with a lot of sucess though. I'd read up on the exact species if your going to get some.
