A.K.A. "A new home for Blue"

So our main tank is a 75g freshwater community that we will be turning into a planted (that will be a separate journal). In preparation to do so, we needed to move our electric blue lobster (Blue) out as research tells me she'll enjoy a planted tank more than we will. We transferred the cardinal tetras and snail from the 10g to the 75g, and Blue temporarily into the 10g alone so she wouldn't snack on any tetras.

Knowing the 10 is a bit small for Blue, we purchased a basic 29g AGA kit on the cheap from a LFS.

My wife loves the look of the pipe decoration we had in the 10, and having recently played Fallout 3, she got the idea to try and do a post-apocalyptic theme on Blue's new tank. So far that means we'll be picking up a few more pipe and barrel type decorations, no foliage, use bland dirt colored gravel, and intend to get a print made of a screenshot from the Fallout 3 game as the background. Haven't taken that screenshot yet though.

Initial move plan was to set up the new tank with gravel and dechlorinated water. Then transfer media and decorations to the new tank to utilize it's BB, then add Blue and have the whole thing done in one day's time. If Blue is expected to survive in a post-nuke world, she can certainly handle the quick tank swap. :grinno:

So we began the transition this past Monday after returning from a weekend getaway and I decided snap some pics along the way try my hand at a journal of the build, so here goes...

Day 2 (Tuesday night) so far so good. ph 7.8, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0. At this point I will continue to monitor water conditions for a week or two before removing the 10g filter and old media.

I still need to pick out and order decorations and the background. I'm open to suggestions for any good post-apocalyptic looking stuff. Please post any ideas. :help2:

And I'll wrap it up with a shot of the current 75g setup that will be my next journal. Currently housing 4 Bosemani Rainbow, 2 Banded Rainbow, 1 Pearl Gourami, 15 Black Neon Tetra, 8 Cardinal Tetra, 1 Clown Pleco, 1 Bristlenose Pleco, 1 Mystery Snail

Looks good! How many caps did you pay for it :)

post apocoliptic eh? go for a fallout 3 theme with zombies.

Ok i am going to say one thing, I thought blue was a jack dempsey. I guess i was wrong and i am happy for that. (what a sweet little guy you got there)
Nice upgrade

Nice looking new tank!

Thanks for the comments.

And thanks for the link for the DIY toxic barrels, they came out great and I may very well do something similar.

 at the caps comment. I wish I could pay for this stuff with caps!

So here's what we're thinking for the background. Although I will need to get in game to take the shot myself so I can get better resolution. Need to get this printed at 20x30 so the res is a little low on this shot from the official Fallout site. Of course, looking at it through the water may be more forgiving with quality. I'll do a test print on some paper and see.
