sorry to hear about the losses. He should be able to raise the fry but it's a gamble. If you want to raise them for sure separate them. If not give him a chance. Sometimes a single parent will try to attack all other fish in the area included his/her mate. I would not add more than a pair to a 29 gallon. They can get very territorial during spawning.
