How many african cichlids can i put in there?

What kind of cichlids? American, African (Malawi, Tanganyikan)?

african- it says in title, i would put 5 peacocks in there then upgrade later

i wouldn'r put malawis in a 29, however the shell dwelling africans would be ok i think

A lot of different sized Africans....can you narrow it down to something you are interested in?

Not sure, that is why i'm asking, i'm looking at a empty 29gal, cycled with no fish (bummer). Was thinking about africans or maybe something else, i'm up for suggestions. I have a 55gal with 2 convicts, 1 jack dempsey, 1 firemouth, 1 severum, 2 clown loaches, 1 red tail shark, 1 rapheal catfish, 1 pleco. Was told b4 that the severum wont work in there, no probs so far, should i put severum in 29? or convicts maybe in there, they are both males.

Shelldwellers and maybe a pair of Julidochromis.

Not much else in the way of Africans that would be happy in that size tank.
