so i currently have an empty 2g hex. i was wondering if i could make this a suitable shrimp tank. id like to raise shrimp but don't have a 10g to devote to it. could i possibly raise some cherry shrimp or ghost shrimp in it?

Most likely yes, make sure you don't have sunlight or a high range of temperatures in your room. Just add plenty of plants. My shrimp live in a 5.5 gallon medium planted with a Betta and 2 long fin tetras. I've had my tank for a few months now.

I had trouble in the long term with a rc shrimp 2g in that they stopped breeding, went to a 5 and they are thriving.

I wouldn't put shrimp in anything less than a 5 or standard 2.5g. It doesn't seem like it would be enough room to me.
