Hi,

I currently have a 65 watt coralife fixture over my 29 gallon tank. However, I'm kind of unhappy that I find it hard to keep a lot of plant species alive, particularly any with good color like sunset hygro (doesn't grow) or rotola indica (loses all red color). I'm not looking particularly for fast growth. I was wondering if I could grow a larger number of plants using 2 x 36 ah supply kit since it has aluminum reflectors or would it not much be a difference? If you have some plants you want to suggest for my current setup that have color that's fine but I also want to get this question answered.

I run 65 watt pcl on my 29's 1 is ah supply others were cheap(inexpensive) fixtures i found.
the growth is good and the plants appear healthy.

what bulbs do you have?

6500K -10,000K seems to be what most use.
I run both 10k and 6700 with good luck.
my rotala , ammania and ludwigia all grow well and maintain the red.
 
I just installed my AHSupply 55W PC light along with pressurized CO2 on my 26 gal. The plants have grown tremendously (and a little algae on my anubias) over the last 2 weeks. AHSupply lights really make a difference.
 
The kit from AHSupply is top notch. The reflector that comes with it does direct more light into the tank as advertised. It will make a difference over your existing fixture. But the extra wattage will have you spending more time tweaking the tank to control algal growth.

I have read that the 6700K coralife bulbs are one of the worst bulbs to use. I have one in a 24" fixture over a 6.6G and I get so-so plant growth from it. I use both the 5500K and GE 9325K in my AHSupply retrofit kit. I find that the GE bulb tends to bring the red out of the plants a little more than the 5500K bulb. I have not tried AHSupply's 6700K bulbs.

I would try to change your bulbs first. Go with Gieseman's 6700K bulbs and see if that makes a difference. You have enough light there to grow a majority of plants and keep them red. Also, don't forget to supplement a little iron once in a while.
