For a 10g, fluorescent lights are fine and then for filters, I operate internal filters (although it consumes space) with sponges and filter floss only. You could try searching in Freshwater Products and DIY.

If I am on the wrong track here which I think I am can some one please show me exactly what I need lighting wise and a link were I can buy it. I would like to start on the tank in the upcoming week setup wise. Also for a filter woudl a little hang on external work?

I forgot to mention I once operated a sponge filter with a powerhead and it works just as fine.

An HOB would be perfectly fine for the 10 gal, and not take up any room internally. Some options would be an Aqua Clear 20, Penguin 100 or a Whisper 30.

I am afraid that the eclipse one doesnt have enough power for the plants to thrive, does it? I figured the 10g tank would be easier to get upgraded lighting but I cant find anything If the eclipse is what I need then I will buy it. I thought I need decently powerful lighting.
