well, i accidentally got 3 new fish today... my environmental science class is doing an aqutic ecosystem experiment and one class recently finished theirs. usually for this project we use a few small feeder fish but a couple people bought their own fish. today after school, i noticed that one tank had a sign reading "free fish" on it. the three inside looked a lot like some species of juvenile cichlid to me, and my boyfriend (who is getting a 75 gallon tank for graduation) had been thinking about getting a few cichlids. so, knowing they'd just get flushed at the end of the semester otherwise, we took them home. His 2.5 and 10 gallon tanks are already nearing overstock, so i volunteered to keep the small fish in my 10 gallon for a few weeks. (All i have in mine is a 1.5 inch juvenile convict cichlid and 2 zebra danios who are less than one inch, plus my boyfriend's large apple snail which i'm also "babysitting" until the new tank comes--the tiger barbs were hurting it) anyway, the new fish and my convict don't seem to get along real well, as i'd expect from 4 cichlids of different kinds. but no one was really biting. (the danios, of course, don't notice anyone but each other) i checked them out when i came home from work today, and noticed that while none of the fish seemed injured, the 3 new ones seem to consistently swim and rest at a 30-45 degree angle, tilted to the left. at first i thought they might be dying, but they don't seem particularly inactive. the only symptom is the tilting. is this characteristic of some breed of cichlid, are they sick, or is it a result of being moved plus harrased by my convict? any suggestions?
